Today I learned that, for the most part the Roman and Greek gods were virtually the same characters to both nations only many had different names. For example Zues, the more commonly known name of the ruler of the gods is known as Jupiter in Roman mythology. I also learned that in the myth pertaining to Hercules, the greatest hero in Greek mythology, that Hera (Juno in Roman myth) was jealous of Hercules. Hera, the queen of the gods was the wife Zues (Jupiter) and Hercules was his son that was bore by mortal woman. So hera sent snakes to kill the young Hercules, but they failed for Hercules strenght overpowered them even at such a young age.
One navigational strategy that I used was on the website (http://www.abc.net.au/arts/wingedsandals/) Here there were link buttons for both a dial up version of the internet and broadband, most schools have broadband so the viewer would click on that link where they would find a navigational screen, the viewer can explore this site, with the help of the navigator Hermes and click on various edfices on the screen that would bring them to such things as short movies about myths and short paragraphs about the history of certain myths.
One reliable source that I found was the website (http://mythicjourneys.org/) Here, on the bottom of the home page website is a link called, "About the creators," where one can look up a litlte bit about the creators of the site and find out some background information on them so that they can see why these creators are suited for devising such a website.
One informational feature that I found helpful was one site contained links to various paragraphs about the history behind certain ancient myths. So after a 4th grade student watched a short film about various myths they could also look up historical information about the myth, and specifically about their favorite hero from the tale.

Exploring Ancient Myths
Class, today we are going to be uncovering some ancient myths, including fun tales about ancient mythical heroes and mythical gods. After reading, Vacation under the Volcano, one mythical hero was already revealed to us, Hercules. This is why I would like you all to explore some other ancient myths, so we can get a better understanding of this one and find out information about some other ones. We are going to be exploring two websites which I have chosen about this topic and have bookmarked for you on the computer in the lab. I want you all to discover as much as you can about these myths and have fun while doing so! Complete the following questions regarding each website when you are done exploring it.
1. Go to the website I labeled as, “Winged Sandals,” __http://www.abc.net.au/arts/winged sandals/__. click on Flash Version then explore around the site. After doing so for a few minutes go to the building that looks like an ancient baseball stadium. Click on it and choose one of the short movies to watch. After watching it write a short summary on what the ancient myth was about _
2. Now think about the Magic Tree House book we just read, Vacation Under the Volcano, did anything from the short movie remind you of anything you read or even saw in this story, such as sites or locations? Or anything else you can think of!_
3. Now go to the website I marked as, “Comparing Roman and Greek gods and goddesses,” __http://www.crystalinks.com/romegods.html__, choose two of these gods or goddesses and write down two facts( keep in mind that these are facts about myths!) about each that you found interesting._
4. Now using the same website, draw a picture below of your favorite god or goddess, keeping in mind what they are the god or goddess of.
Rubric:
